ABORTIONS STATEWIDE HIT AN ALL-TIME LOW
On Tuesday, October 1, the Ohio Department of Health (ODOH) released its Annual Abortion Report. The 2018 ODOH Report revealed a decrease in the number of abortions in 2018. A total of 20,425 abortions were performed statewide, representing a decrease of 2% from 2017.
Yes, we should celebrate that as a state, we saw a decline in abortions! Thanks goes to the faithful women and men across Ohio who make their voices heard at the abortion chambers as sidewalk counselors and prayer warriors. Thanks goes to all those who educate and advocate to change hearts and minds. Finally, thanks go to the thousands across Ohio who serve in our women’s resource centers; these individuals walk alongside the moms who choose life for their pre-born babies. Lives are being saved, hearts and minds are being changed; the pro-life movement is winning!
America has reached a tipping point regarding the life issue. With the appointment of the two new Supreme Court Justices and hopefully more to come, we are winning. In 2016 who would have thought we’d elect the most effective pro-life President ever? Yes, even more effective than Regan in advancing real change in government policy, we are winning.
Then in 2018 Ohioans elected the most pro-life Governor in its history. We have pro-life leadership in both the Speaker of the Ohio House and the President of the Ohio Senate, and we are blessed to have strong pro-life majorities in both chambers. Finally, Ohio has led the way by enacting one of the most substantial Heartbeat Bills in the nation, we are winning.
The pro-abortionists in a desperate attempt to regain their momentum, now advocate for laws that effectively legalize infanticide. These laws help expose the utter depravity of reproductive rights extremists. They have helped more and more people to realize that this is not some benign choice, but, in fact, one individual’s right to kill an innocent life. The real question? Is the unborn child a women’s property to do with as she wants, and when? Or are the unborn distinct and unique human persons deserving of their own inalienable right to life?
In 2018, Lucas County saw the number of abortions increase for the fourth straight year. The county recorded 1,488 up from 1,320, in 2017 an increase of 12.7%. This averages 28 innocent babies each week killed here in Toledo.
Of those 1,488 abortions, 879 (59%) reported being Lucas county residents. Additionally, of those 879 Lucas county babies aborted, 378 (43%) of their mothers identified themselves as black or African American. These atrocious numbers mean 378 black children (7 babies a week) died in our community in 2018, making abortion the leading cause of death for black children in Lucas County. What is even more incredulous, black women account for only 10% of the population in the county.
Yes, let us celebrate the victories! However, our work is far from over; we must build on this momentum. Together let us Stand Up, Speak Up, and Pray Up!
