Information about Trisomy 18: Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards syndrome, is a condition which is caused by an error in cell division, known as meiotic disjunction. According to the Trisomy-18 Foundation, when this happens, instead of the normal pair, an extra chromosome 18 results (a triple) in the developing baby and disrupts the normal pattern of development in significant ways that can be life-threatening. Unlike Down syndrome, which also is caused by an extra chromosome, the developmental issues caused by Trisomy 18 are associated with more medical complications that are more potentially life-threatening in the early months and years of life.
Additional information about the Brad and Jesi Smith: Beyond working to change Michigan law, we are speaking as part of www.savethe1.com about our story and the dangerous path our country is headed down when it comes to the low view our society has toward life including the unborn and disabled. We are also actively engaged in the creation of a Trisomy Clinic to help children like our daughter Faith not only survive, but thrive. We have shared our story through the Detroit Free Press, Bill Bennett’s Morning in America, and The Janet Mefford Show as well as other local media outlets in metro Detroit. We are bloggers for Save The 1 and our articles have been published in Life News. Brad is a Board Member and Secretary of Save The 1. The Smith family can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and through their website at www.keepingourfaith.net.
