Why I Am Pro-Life
By studying the Declaration of Independence, we can clearly deduce the importance and meaning our founding fathers have stressed upon the three unalienable rights given to us by our Creator. Human life itself is the first right entrusted to us, therefore it is intended that no mortal being take this precious gift from us. People are appalled when hearing of a murder and instinctively do everything in their power to have the person guilty of the crime arrested. Why then do people allow, accept, and in some cases promote, innocent and unborn babies to be murdered?
It is hard to understand how somebody that has witnessed birth or held a baby can be a supporter of abortion. Unfortunately, many people are ill informed and given faulty information about abortion to drive them away from guilt and convince them that abortion is not a bad thing. Some arguments may try to stress that the babies killed in abortion are not yet humans; my belief is that a human life is formed at the point of conception. Terms such as “fetus” are used to replace the word baby so as not to trigger the emotions that the word baby brings. Abortions take place throughout different stages in the pregnancy; while some are performed during the first three months into the pregnancy, others are performed as late as the last three months. At eight weeks all of the vital organs of the baby have formed and by twelve weeks every detail of the baby’s basic structure is developed. Amazingly, at just three weeks, the baby’s heart begins beating, a process that will take place the rest of his or her life. By knowing these facts, how can we believe that abortion is not murder?
Still, some continue to argue that it is the choice of the woman pregnant with the child since it is the woman’s body; however, a person’s rights end when another’s begin. Stating in other words, a person has no right to take away the gift of life from another human. In committing abortion, the person is affecting all of the lives that would intertwine with the unborn human in both significant and small ways. Women who become pregnant must take responsibility and fully understand the consequences before becoming pregnant. If, in rare case, a parent is unable to care for their child, adoption is an option which would give the child the opportunity at the life he or she deserves.
I strongly believe in protecting and ensuring the birth of babies because no matter what protagonists for abortion say to cover up the wrongs of abortion, the process truly commits murder and ends the sacred life of a human being. It is our duty as those who advocate pro life to inform those around us of the truths of abortion and promote adoption and other options besides abortion. Most importantly, we must explain the importance every human life brings into the world.
