Ohio House Passes Two Common-Sense Prolife Laws

ree

This week, the Ohio House passed House Bill 324, “The Patient Protection Act,” by a vote of 59 to 28. This bill is intended to restrict mail-order sales of certain medications with severe adverse effects in more than 5% of their users, including Mifepristone and other abortion drugs. For example, Mifepristone would be classified as a dangerous drug, meaning a woman would be required to make an in-person visit to her doctor and be informed o

f the harmful side effects before the abortion pill is prescribed. These are common-sense safeguards to ensure women are fully informed by their doctors.

A second House Bill 485, aka the Baby Olivia Act, also passed the Ohio House by a vote of 58 to 26, requiring public schools to show students a video of fetal development. Meet Baby Olivia is a 3-minute video vividly illustrating a preborn baby’s development from fertilization to birth.

“I am shocked when I talk with students on our local College Campuses, and I ask them, ‘When do you think life begins?’ A surprising number say they don’t know,” said Ed Sitter, Executive Director of the Foundation for Life. Sitter went on to ask, "When did they stop teaching basic embryology in high school science?"

Now the Ohio Senate must approve these two prolife laws when they return in December. Thanks to all of you who responded to our call for action and contacted their members to support these common-sense bills that educate students and protect women.
